The Nigerian Army has condemned the indiscriminate sharing on social media of graphic pictures of personnel who die in the cause of defending and protecting the country from its adversaries.
The Army, along these lines, announced that it will make a legal move against such " despicable and unacceptable" acts to protect troops who die in real life.
Chief Army Public Relations, Brigadier General, Mohammed Yerima who disclosed this yesterday in Abuja, said such individuals who died while defending their honor and fatherland, should not be " ridiculed on social media or any stage. "
" This demonstration is unpatriotic as well as insensitive and completely reprehensible, " Yerima said.
" Officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army deployed to various theaters of internal security operations are on legitimate duties and are in the harm' s way to guard and protect the country from those who are intent on destroying it.
" In the course of completing this constitutional command, troops put their lives at risk to ensure that innocent citizens and institutions of the state are protected from fierce criminals. In some cases, these gallant officers and soldiers are meted with the worst type of savagery by the heartless adversaries whose intent is to instill fear in the citizenry.
Yerima said " While the Nigerian Army and its personnel understand the idea of the honorable calling and are at any point prepared to defy any threat of adversity in transit, what is most unbelievable is the joy with which some individuals share the gory pictures of officers and soldiers who are either executed in real life or Wounded- in real life in the media.
" These unpatriotic acts are frequently managed with no smidgen of consideration for the memories of the left personnel or their relatives. In some cases, their friends and family get some answers concerning their lamentable demise in such a callous way before they are even reached by the military authorities. One can just envision the trauma and agony such families go through awakening to see the gory pictures of their friends and family splashed on social media.
" The Nigerian Army consider this despicable and unpatriotic demonstration absolutely unacceptable and will hereafter make legal moves to protect troops who die in real life from being ridiculed on social media or any stage.
